What illness did you suffer from as a result of using Talcum Powder?

Talcum Powder has been sold as a hygiene product for over a century and has been marketed and used by women as a moisture absorbent among many other uses. Studies show the use of talcum powder and feminine sprays are linked to the development of Ovarian Cancer.

Lawsuits are being filed against pharmaceutical giants such as, Johnson & Johnson, Gold Bond, and many others; alleging that talcum powder caused women to develop ovarian cancer. These lawsuits also assert that these companies knew or should have known of the health risk and failed to warn women of the danger in talcum powder products.

  • There were over 21,000 new Ovarian Cancer cases in 2015.
  • Women have a 1 in 75 risk of developing Ovarian Cancer.
  • Women who use talcum powder in their have a 20% to 30% higher risk of developing Ovarian Cancer. *
  • In 2015, over 14,000 women have died from Ovarian Cancer.
  • Ovarian Cancer counts for 3% of all cancer in women.
  • Women aged from 55-64 are most frequently diagnosed.

As early as the 1970’s, researchers began observing talcum powder in Ovarian Cancer tumors. Studies in 1982, 2003, and 2013 saw the same finding: talcum powder present in Ovarian Cancer tumors. These findings also showed that women who used talcum powder regularly in their genital/groin areas have a 30% greater risk of developing Ovarian Cancer.

The 1982 study was brought to the attention of researchers at Johnson & Johnson, who attempted to convince the study’s head researcher that the conclusions were false. However, several other studies confirmed those findings. Regardless, the corporate giant never issued a general warning about talcum powder or the side effects of its use. Today, thousands are paying the price for their inaction and unwillingness to act on scientific data.

In 2006, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified talc as a possible carcinogen if applied by women to the genital area. That same year, Johnson & Johnson’s talc supplier began adding warning labels to the talc it delivers to Johnson & Johnson for use in personal care products. Johnson & Johnson did not include similar safety information when packaging its’ Baby Powder and Shower to Shower products for sale to consumers. In fact, the company still has not labeled those warnings on their products. Today these products do not have any warnings about the Ovarian Cancer link and continue to be marketed to women as safe and effective for personal hygiene.
